The holidays are around the corner. Soon you’ll have friends and family stopping by, great-tasting food, music, and lots of joy.

But…does the ramp-up to the holidays make you suddenly feel tension in your shoulders? Great news – being prepared before the holidays can help you enjoy the season even more.

Let’s look at the top five things you need to do to get ready for the holidays:

  1. Make a list and (check it twice)

Time to get organized! Whether you’re a paper person or a digital person, write down your task list. This way, you can remember everything you need. This helps cut down on embarrassing moments like when your aunt gives you a thoughtful gift and you get her…nothing.

  1. Block time on the calendar for your favorite traditions

Does your town have a seasonal celebration? Do you love going to the same place every year with your friends? Make time for these traditions! If you don't plan before the season begins, it makes it increasingly difficult to organize…and before you know it, the holidays have gone by!. This year can be different! Set your calendar, invite the right people, and have a great season of traditions.

  1. Deep clean your oven and fridge

We all know it: People love hanging out in kitchens. No matter how beautifully your home is decorated, people will gather around the island next to the food. Before guests come over, deep clean your oven and fridge! No more hiding cookie sheets inside your oven, and no more being embarrassed about your disorganized fridge. Enjoy your party instead of cringing every time someone opens the fridge door.[LS2]  This is also a Merry Maids add-on service, so we can help if you’re short on time or your list is too long.

  1. Create a menu, complete with needed grocery items

One of the greatest joys of modern shopping is picking up groceries someone else gathered for you! Take the time to add to your (long) grocery list, and make sure every ingredient and item is on there. Use a couple of days to think it through and then schedule the delivery or pickup. Voila – you’ll be ready for snacks and meals all the time.

  1. Get the guest room ready

Have you ever showed up to stay at a friend’s house and felt like an afterthought? Show your guests how much you care. Beautiful bedding, nice toiletries, and even a bottle of water on the bedside table show people how much you appreciate their visit. Plus, if you do this ahead of time it can be an enjoyable process - instead of a rush as your guests are walking in the door.
